Comfortable Family Cabin

Reviewed on 2019-01-17 by Tiffany
“The cabin is comfortable with a family feel. The living/dining/kitchen/and one of two baths are upstairs. The 3 bedrooms and one bath downstairs accommodate multiple couples or large family and the floor heater heats the lower floor well. Stokin the woodstove upstairs is recommended in the winter. We were very happy that this cabin is pet friendly as we like take our fur children with us to the mountains as much as possible. The kitchen is well stocked with the essentials plus everything you'd need for family or holiday meals.”

Perfect Cabin

The cabin was just as described. We had a group of 8 and a dog, everyone was very pleased and enjoyed the cabin to the fullest. The bunk bed mattresses were a little hard (and noisy) but they served their purpose. Very close to the lake and great area to walk around.

We really couldn't have been much happier :) This home was great! Nice long drive way for plenty of cars 7 or boats, lots of sleeping options and a great, open floor plan upstairs for lounging, cooking and eating. It was important for our family of 10 to have 2 couches, this home had 2 very comfortable "L" couches, a huge dining table that sat 12. It has 2 great patio/balcony's for fresh air & is in a wonderful neighborhood. My only disappointment was that the beds were not the most comfortable, but it is what it is. We were thrilled to have this place and hope to come back soon. Worked out great for the dogs too! Agate Bay Rentals were incredibly friendly and pleasant to work with. They offer the best deals and make it easy for families bringing along our furry kiddos! Just an FYI if you are bringing your pooch there no fenced yard.

We had 4 adults + a two-year-old. Kitchen is very well equipped; every possible piece of equipment is there. Newer, clean gas grill on deck. Nice having two decks with chairs and chaise lounges to follow the sun all day! Appreciated lots of glasses and nice wine glasses. Beds are fine. Good to have 2 baths. Nice 10-min. walk to dog beach, 5 min. drive to beautiful pool/lawn/sand volleyball. Easy biking area. 15-min drive to very nice public beach w/3 volleyball courts and large lawn w/picnic areas. Short drive to Tahoe City/Kings Beach.

This was an amazing home in the forest, very secluded and quiet. I have yet to find the pool and the beach they talk about, but the stay was very peaceful and enjoyable
Manager response on 2012-09-30 - Response from Agate Bay Realty
Hi Ken, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. The pool is only open until the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, so it wasn't open during your stay but for future reference it's on the corner of Dodowah Rd. and Agate Rd. about a 10 minute walk from the house. The dog-friendly beach within a ten minute walk is Patton Beach, just walk to Sahara Rd, up to Onyx Rd, and down to the lake and it is right there. You can also look in the binder at the house for other answers to frequently asked questions, maps, etc. Thanks again, we hope to see you soon!

My kids and I loved spending Christmas at the Smith cabin. I especially love how the whole upstairs was one giant living space, with the kitchen and dining room and family room. It even has an upstairs bathroom, shower, and laundry room! All the bedrooms were downstairs. The house is located on a very quiet street, close to everything, yet tucked away nicely. We didn't see any bears! Loved having a big pile of firewood at my disposal. Notes everywhere explained how to operate things in the house, which was great for me. Everything was perfect. I had all the cooking utensils, pots and pans I needed. We just went grocery shopping, then came in and made ourselves at home.Kids had a blast exploring their new environment and everything was kid-safe. I even appreciated that the coffee table had rounded edges, so I didn't have to worry about them getting hurt!Oh, and if you go in the winter, be sure and check out Northstar resort. It's close by, and we had a fantastic day there. We parked in the free lot and took the free shuttle! We will definitely stay here again!

This house is very easy to share with a large group of family, r

The Smith house is well equipped and comfortable and clean. Beautiful deck, quiet neighborhood. The decor and furniture are old but large and sturdy. The location is great, very convenient to many interesting spots on the North/West Shore. Agate Bay Realty was very responsive to all pre-trip questions and I would definately consider staying here again. I also really appreciate that it is a dog friendly property.

The Smith house is inviting in its set up. Bedrooms and one full bath on the main floor with shared areas, laundry and another full bath on the second floor. If you are coming to ski or hit the lake the location canont be beat. Squaw and NorthStar are close as is the Safeway and Garwoods for food and seeing/being seen. The cabin is dated in terms of furniture. The beds are very comfortable. The coches not so much. The kithcen is adequate for snacks, sandwiches, etc. and if you are looking to prepare intensive meals (as we did on a few evenings of our stay) it is possible but the tools are old and shopworn. We loved the decks and these were very good for entertaining and hangin out. The grill is old and you have to use a grill pan becuase the actual rack is rusting (I wouldn't put anything my family was going to eat on that grill directly.) The place is warn and has charm but needs serious updating to be more comfortable. If sleeping and location are the main needs of the trip it is great and King's beach is close and sandy (pkg = $8/day.) You can walk to Carnelian bay, which our dog loved (he liked the house:)) I would not stay here again without upgrades but that's me and our tastes. This place is clean, Agate bay realty folks are frienbdly and helpful regardless of the need or questions, and it is in a great neighborhood. t was our first time to this area of Tahoe and we will come back for sure and find a place with a modern kitchen and furniture. If I were witha group looking to ski and get a good rate on a good location, this is it.

great layout and property but poorly managed

Reviewed on 2011-08-13 by Honest review of CA
The Smith house has plenty of room & the layout is fantastic for 2 families to share. The deck is big, & living room spacious. Kids loved the room w/ bunk beds. Unfortunately, the property seems poorly managed. When we got there, the toilet downstairs (where the rooms are) wouldn't flush & nobody had used it. Agate Bay Realty (ABR) had to get a plummer & to their credit they had one come out the next day. (We trucked upstairs in the middle of the night to use the bathroom). The microwave door handle broke off the next day, as it appeared to have been glued on from a previous breakage. Abr asked the model, make, etc., which we found. We were told someone would come out & fix it so we didn't have to peel open the door w/ our fingernails - we never heard back from aBR and no appliance person ever came. Bbq was supposed to come w/ a full propane tank, it was 90% empty and I had go fill it(in all fairness I didn't contact aGB about propane, my wife told me after the fact it was to come with the property). The oven when off when we were trying to cook pizzas and wouldn't hold a heat of 425. Becareful if you have young children, there's a heating vent big enough to fall through; it's very light and not bolted down. My wife lifted it with one finger. We covered it w/ a blanket and put a table over it to prevent a fatal accident. Shower downstairs took 5 hrs to drain, it might be time to snake it. Althhough the refig said "normal" and was on level 3 of 6 it froze everything on the top shelf, including a gallon of milk. Athough not abr's fault couches and furniture are somewhat dated and uncomfortable. Overall, beds are good, and there is plenty of room. I hate to complain and I expect wear/tear (dirty carpets, poor utencils, etc.) but when you pay over 2k in rent, it's a given that plumbing & appliances should work w/out issue. When I discussed this w/ ABR staff upon leaving, they said "you never know what's going to happen" w/ a smile. Ironically, I'd stay there tomorrow.

We checked out a few options for a long weekend getaway at North Lake, but the Smith House seemed like a perfect fit after reading the description. We don't vacation without our dog Moki, so dog friendly accommodations is a requirement. As soon as we arrived, we knew this place fit the bill. It has small but comfortable bedrooms on the first floor, and a large living/hanging out space on the second floor with a nice kitchen. The dining table is big enough for a large family plus some guests. The backyard deck is huge - a great place to kick back and relax - and seemed private from the rest of the neighborhood. Our dog felt right at home. He also had a tail wagging good time exploring North Lake and all the dog friendly trails and beaches in the area... Woof!

This home was very dissapointing. The furniture was old, dirty, and some broken. The carpets were fillthy and the downstairs bathroom sink is far too small, adults have to bend over allot to wash their face or brush their teeth. The toilet seat needed repair which the cleaning service was kind enough to replace. Tv downstairs did not work. This home is in need of some tender loving care and a deep cleaning!

My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer and lounge more on the back deck. We found ample hiking trails for the two of us and our 3 dogs, including a chihuahua mix who led the pack, but we also enjoyed just walking around the quiet neighborhood. It was great that Patten Beach was within walking distance. The house had all the amenities, but it desperately needs a good knife for chopping, and a few more lounge chairs for the deck. My friend didn't like that the upstairs noise carried into the downstairs bedrooms, but I liked that the house had two upper decks so the dogs could be out but still be enclosed. I would definitely rent again from agate Bay Realty.

We stayed here for 5 days over NYE, and it was a wonderful experience. It is about a 15-20 min drive to Diamond Peak, Homewood, and Alpine Meadows, so we got to try all of these resorts. The kitchen and the equipment was very nice, and the selection of pots and pans were impressive. The knife selection wasn't so super, so we will bring our won next time. My only complaint was that we ran out of hot water after two people showered. There are two showers, but we could really only use one at a time or else we ran out of hot water. We would definitely consider staying here again!

This was our first experience in renting a cabin in Tahoe. What a great first experience it was! The Smith home was exactly as described, but the pictures really didn't even really do it justice. It is very comfortable. There are 4 people in our family and we also brought our two boxers. We had plenty of room, and the dogs especially loved the outdoor decks. We were only a few blocks from the pool, which the kids enjoyed quite a bit. We plan on going back to this cabin again.
